Firstly if you’re breastfeeding you’ll need lots of energy and a nutrient rich diet. If you gained some body fat (which is perfectly normal) during pregnancy you won’t need a load of extra calories as you can access calories from this stored fat, but this isn’t the time to eat a low calorie or crash diet, or both your and your baby will be missing out on vital nutrients.
You’ll also be sleep deprived, have little time to yourself, and may even have an older child to look after, so you need all the energy you can get, which won’t happen if you’re not fuelling yourself properly with good food.
Also your tummy and pelvic floor muscles aren’t what they used to be, and doing the wrong types of exercise could actually be making things worse!
I was asked by Fit & Well Magazine to help them with an article showing Mums how to lose the baby weight safely.
